Peaks: Bondcliff, Bond, West Bond
Trails: Lincoln Woods Trail, Bondcliff Trail, West Bond Spur
Mileage: 23 (Over 2 days)
Elevation Gain: 4,750′
Weather: Great visibility, warm & breezy.
Ground Conditions: Plenty of ice & snow across the upper portions of the bondcliff trail & west bond spur. We wore microspikes both days.
Notes: Originally we set out on this trip as a dry run overnight to test the tent & sleeping gear ahead of a trip to Utah & Arizona. I reached out to my friend Justin to invite him on a trip out to the Bonds. Out plan was to hike out a ways, stealth camp and then tag the peaks the next day. That night in the tent, we whipped ourselves into a frenzy and toasted to West Bond.
The next day we got a nice early start on the trail around 11am and headed for the peaks. Coming down Bondcliff, Katie and I took our spikes off for the trip to Bond thinking there was too much rock exposed and left them off our boots until we reached the summit. We were wrong about the amount of ice we encountered and kept moving. Without spikes, this segment took longer than it should have. We reached the summit of Mount Bond to find Justin doing some light reading. We enjoyed spectacular views of all surrounding peaks throughout the day.
On the summit of West Bond, we snacked and had more bagged wine. We met a day hiker completing the single day Pemi loop on that peak. A few minutes later, I considered that as a reach goal and completed my first single day Pemi loop on June 11, 2016.
